LINK TO MAJOR AIRLINE RESERVATION SYSTEMS
-- If you're changing planes to the Bahamas, claim your luggage in Florida and recheck it to Treasure Cay. Baggage has an odd way of disappearing in the Bermuda Triangle. -- Be especially aware of "seasons" when making travel plans. The "off-season" in the Bahamas is June thru November. We think the most beautiful time of the year in Abaco is October-November.
To enter the Bahamas, you MUST have an International Flight Plan on file to an official Port Of Entry. Clearing Customs in Treasure Cay is easy (although rarely quick). You must have a passport . Driver's licenses, voter registration cards or birth certificates are not accepted (see above). VFR night flying in the Bahamas is PROHIBITED. Treasure Cay Airport, identifier MYAT, has a single runway 14-32. Length is 7000 Ft. and operates generally from sunrise to sunset. The surface is "relatively" smooth with occasional bumps and potholes. Treasure Cay is a busy uncontrolled airfield. Begin monitoring Unicom on 122.8 at least 20 miles out. Beware of commercial air carriers who like to make straight-in approaches without radio calls. Fuel is available at Marsh Harbour Airport located 15KM from Treasure Cay. Always check your fuel for water before you depart. Everyone is required to pay a "departure tax" when leaving the Bahamas. U.S. Customs will make you buy a Bahamas "sticker," good for a year. We highly recommend "Pilot's Bahamas Aviation Guide" by Brian Strong, available through all aviation mail order catalogs.
